This artisan spice blend brings a Sri Lankan touch to your kitchen, combining heat with zesty and savory undertones. A Taste of Childhood: Street-Side Mangoes There was a specific kind of magic in the heat of a summer afternoon, hearing the distant call of a vendor or the laughter of friends gathered on a dusty corner. We didn’t need fancy snacks; all we craved was the sharp, mouth-watering tang of a green mango, sliced right there in the street. I can still see the stained, old wooden cart and the quick, rhythmic movement of the knife. The vendor would hand over those pale yellow slices in a small plastic bag. But the secret was always in the "mix." I had no idea what it was He’d reach into those worn tins and sprinkle a generous pinch of coarse salt and a fiery dusting of crushed chili. As soon as it hit the fruit, the juices would run, creating a spicy, briny syrup that coated every piece. We’d eat them with our fingers, standing in the shade or at the bus station waiting for a red old public bus to arrive, wincing at the sourness and breathing through the heat of the chili. By the time we were finished, our hands were sticky and our lips were tingling, no wonder why we had sticky handkerchiefs but nothing in the world tasted better. It wasn't just a snack; it was the very flavor of freedom and childhood. • Ingredients: Celtic salt, chilli, tomatoes, and lemon zest. • Net Quantity: 50 g. • Allergy Advice: Please read ingredients carefully. My love for Sri Lankan flavours began in the warmth of my grandmother’s kitchen. I spent my childhood mesmerized, watching her in the kitchen over a traditional wood fire. The air was always thick and smoky with the scent of roasting spices and fresh curry leaves. The heart of her cooking was the grinding mill which start early in the morning.
Today, I honour her memory by using those same traditional methods. Every jar of Sepali’s Kitchen Artisan Spice Paste is:
• Hand-ground in our traditional Sri Lankan grinding mill to ensure a depth of flavour that machines simply cannot replicate.
• Crafted with Care, using the same foundational ingredients my grandmother and my mother used for Sri Lankan curries.
• Small-Batch & Artisan, preserved in naturally to keep the spices as vibrant as the day they were ground.
